ASSOCIATION

The 9th/12th Royal Lancers Association is a Registered Charity set up to help any past and serving members, their wives, widows and dependants of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (The Prince of Wales's). Anyone who has served in the former Regiments, which are the 9th Queens Royal Lancers, the 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) and the 27th Lancers may of course also benefit from this fund. Officers and soldiers, who served in the 24th Lancers, should contact the RAC War Memorial Fund at RHQ RTR Stanley Barracks, Bovington, Wareham, Dorset BH20 6JB Tel 01929 403 331, Fax 01929 403 488 or www.racmemfund.org.uk

The Association distributes annually some £25 000 in welfare donations ranging from regular quarterly payments to one-off grants with which to help with the purchase of wheelchairs, medical appliances and other expenses which are not available from the Social Services.

To get in touch with us, if and when you need assistance, you should first of all contact your local Divisional Secretary of SSAFA - Forces Help, (The Soldiers Sailors Airmen and Families Association - Forces Help). SSSAFA's National HQ is in London at the following address;

SSAFA Forces Help
Central Office
19 Queen Elizabeth Street
LONDON SE1 2PL
Tel: 020 7403 8786
Fax: 020 7403 8815
www.ssafa.org.uk

A representative from SSAFA will call on you and discuss with you your problems and suggest what can be done for you. They are experts in this field and they will advise you what to do. You may find that your best course of action is to seek legal advice or you may have to contact the Citizens Advice Bureau; but if you need financial aid they will then get in touch with us and we will try and help.

Please understand that we cannot deal directly with you for financial help

Under the rules for Service Charities we must refer all applications for financial grants back to SSAFA Divisional Secretary for a report.

When we have this report we can then see how best we can help. In some instances we ask the Army Benevolent Fund or other related Service Charities for assistance. All reports we get are treated with the utmost confidentially and only those involving in making decisions about any application are allowed to see them

The Royal British Legion (TRBL) also has a number of local representatives. If you would rather talk to them but you don't know their telephone number you should ring the LEGIONLINE on 0345 725 725. Their Head Office in London is;

The Royal British Legion
Pall Mall
LONDON SW1
Tel 020 7973 7200
Fax 020 7973 7360
